Mr. Schick vocab words

Agora- a central spot in ancient Greek city-states. The word means "gathering place." Voting or meeting in a town so people can discuss decisions. Ancient Greece had worlds first democracy.
Arete- the word means "excellence of any kind." The Ancient Greeks applied the term in everything. The act of living up to ones potential.
Polis- the word means, "city in Greek" It was the ideal citizenship.
508 B.C- Over threw government. Tyrant in charge. 1st time common people rose up against Tarkin. It was known as the Year of the Consulship of Poplicola and Tricipitinus
Socrates- a classical Greek philosopher. He was born in 470 B.C and died in 399 B.C. Teacher of Plato.

The Socratic method- named after the Greek philosopher Socrate. is a form of inquiry and discussion between individuals
what the ancient Greeks meant if they called you an idot- a person who didn't vote was called an idiot. Only males could vote and only citizens can vote.
