last day of september

In class today on the last of September, we talked about population growth. We first started off with everyone talking about random things, and then Mr. Schick got kind of mad, and told everyone to stop. After we stopped, we watched a 5 minute video about population, and how many people of what age you see in each country. It was a lot of graphs we looked at. The video should have taken about 5 minutes, but took almost all of the class. We talked about that if you look at the graphs from a while ago, until now, it looks like if they are in waves. It is this way because some age groups have more children than other groups. Also, that girls live longer than guys because of the jobs the guys do are more dangerous. I had a lot of fun in this class on the last day of September. It was a fun class.

this weekend

When I went to my relatives house in New Jersey, we had a lot of fun. We did many things we usually do as a family. Activities like bago, badminton, and football. The day I got there, I knew it would be a fun visit. I got out of the car, and my aunt named Erin gave me a big hug because I haven’t seen her in a very long time. Then, I hugged my uncle Al. After the hug’s, we got right to playing games. I got beat, and I won games. We had arguments about who won, but in the end, it was a blast. As I’m sitting on their couch, looking around on what we should write, I thought, that this was a very fun time. They are one of my favorite relatives in all of them. I hope in a couple months or so, I can come back and visit.

class before friday's class

The class before friday’s class was fun. The exchange students: Ryan, Alex, and John are back in class from not being in class yesterday due to the Freshman Retreat. We went over the 4 essay questions from the test throughout the class. Mr. Schick and a student named Cody started having rap battles about random things. Some parts of the class was really funny, and everyone was laughing. When he handed the test out to the 3 exchange students, he did the bell ring to anyone that got an A. We didn’t get enough done as a Mr. Schick had probably had hope, but was a fun class for students. We talked about globalization and how important it was and still is. We talked about modern, and old globalization. We also went over again about the death of Socrates. I eventually added the information about it that I got wrong. As I left the class, I thought that this was a very good one.

todays class on 9/24/14

In today’s class in Human Geography we went over the tests from a week back. I didn’t do as well as I had hoped. I walked into the door, looked around and then sat down. Mr. Schick said to the class, “Okay, let’s go over the test.” He then told us all the section’s grade average. We had the highest grade, but went down from 86,to 84, to 80. He then gave our tests back, and anyone that got an A on their test, got a ring from the bell on his moving table he carries around all day. A good amount of people got the ring, but other didn’t, including me. After all the tests were handed out, we went over them, and told us the answers to every question. That helped a lot, because then we could study it for the mid-term exam. As I’m writing this, I just realized that I didn’t correct some of the answers.

Freshman Retreat

The Freshman Retreat at St. Margarets on Friday was fun. I had a low expectation for it, but it turned out pretty fun. I thought we had to sit in a mass the entire day, but actually played some games, had fun with the 5 Juniors, and good food from Mrs. Sullivan, and Mr. Myrel. Also, I knew a decent amount of kids there, so it made it better. We had pizza for lunch from Pats, and tasted pretty good. I was happy that I didn’t have to go to classes that day, but still had to make up homework. The main concept of the retreat, is to get to know everyone better. I liked that the Juniors were there, and told us about their freshman experience. They also told us about how to get threw the year. They told us to do your homework because then if you can do bad on tests and still have a bad grade. I had fun on this retreat, and learned some things to do as a Freshman.

life expectancy

In today’s class, we talked about interesting things. There were some facts I never knew about in my life. It’s just crazy how all these facts are true, but they are not realized so easily in today’s society. We talked about life expectancy around the world. The U.S was pretty decent with an average around 75, whereas Monaco was around 90 or so. The sad part was that the country, Chad is around 48. Also, that some families of African countries have to have more kids than normal because they know atleast one or two will die from disease, bad water, or some type of bad virus. I thought these facts were very fascinating. I noticed that men live less than women. Mr. Schick described that to us and he said because men do more dangerou jobs than women. Also, he said that China can only have 2 children because there are so many people. I thougth all these facts were fascinating and hope to learn more.

Our first test

In today’s class, we had a test. This was my 6th test of the day. It was an easier one due to using our blog which had facts on it to help us with the answers. Without the blog I would’ve done way worse than I did. I didn’t study as much as the other classes because I knew we were going to be able to use our blog. It was pretty fair I guess compared to the other tests I’ve taken today, but still a little challenging. Some answers on the test weren’t in my blog, so I had to either remember about it in class, or guess. Towards the end of the test, I thought, man this was way easier than my other tests. As I handed it in, I was just hoping I had a good amount of right answers. The clock was winding down to 2:40, and I was sitting there and writing this while it was doing that.

Class without Mr. Schick

We have a test tomorrow in Human Geography about everything we have learned so far. Mr. Schick was not present in our class today because he was in Philadelphia for a meeting. I walked into class, and a few minutes later, Mr. Myrel walked in, and said, “I’m your sub for today.” He read us what we are doing today. He said that we’re studying for the test today. Everyone got to work studying. I saw on some peoples computer that they were making vocab terms on “Quizlet”. I also was using that because it’s the best way to study. It’s really a good way to study because it’s actually a little bit fun because it has games you can play with the terms. I knew the class was really long, so towards the end I started to take a little nap. As a waited for the bell to finally ring, I gathered my book, and it rang.

Globalization

In yesterday’s in Mr. Schick’s Human Geography class, we talked about many different things. I walked in the room smelling the very good smelling air freshener. I then sat down. We were then talking about Globalization and americanization. We looked at a picture of a KFC/McDonalds restaurant in China. It had Chinese writing on some parts of, and two Chinese kids name Alex and Ryan translated it for us. They said it translated into “beef and noodles”. After that we went onto another slide about the silk road. Mr. Schick says it’s amazing how it took about about a year or a little less to get something transported, and now it can take over night. Also, it was amazing how the fast food chains spread throughout the world, and other countries eat it. We then talked about talking on cell phones and how easy it is to do now a days. I mentioned a great thing about cell phone. I said, “Do you think in the future we will be able to talk to someone in a foreign country, and if they don’t know the language it translates back into it, and vis versa?” We then just talked about other slides and transportation. Everyone was shocked of my great thought. As class was about to end, we gathered our books and waited for the bell to ring.

class today on 9/11/2014

I walked into todays class, and knew this class would be my favorite of the day. Mr Schick started off about the video we saw today in his class about the world and asked us our favorite ones. I answered two of them, and my definitely favorite fact was if Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest. We were then talking about life in the future, and how are life’s could be controlled by a little chip in our brain. Many kids kept interrupting Mr. Schick when he would talk because they were getting “mad”. A kid named Cody mentioned that he thinks the government started cancer just to get money, and him and Mr. Schick kept arguing. Many kids kept arguing with him, and they just kept wanting to be right, but they weren’t. As  I knew the bell was going to ring soon, I got my books ready to go on my free mod.

CLASS ABOUT FACTS

In today’s class we watched a video about our fast moving world. The main topic of the video was “Did you know” facts. They were really cool and interesting facts. I thought the fact that China will soon become the number one English speaking country in the world. Also, the facts about we are currently preparing jobs that don’t yet exist. Lastly, the coolest fact was about if Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest in the world. My initial reaction when I saw these facts were jaw dropping because I never knew any of these things. These change my life by making me more aware of all of it, and having more knowledge about it. Technology plays a huge role in my life because I grew up with it, and am expected to know a lot about all of it. Today's class was definitely one of best classes.

Class about Socrates

In yesterdays class, we talked about many important things. The main topic was about Socrates, and how he was as a person. The class started off with taking attendance, and then we showed us a quote on the board that Socrates said. It stated, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” I unfortunately was in the bathroom when Mr. Schick described what it meant. It was a very meaningful quote to the Greeks in this time period. We talked mostly about the quote the whole class, but had little side things that we talked about like how loyal and honest guy he was after he did his crime. “He was even offered to be freed from his death.” Mr. Schick said, “and he said know.” He explained. Everyone including me looked shocked from this guys answer to be freed from death, but Mr. Schick then explained that he was a very loyal and honest man about this, but never did apologize, and if he did apologize, he would’ve probably been freed from death since he was respected so much. After a lot of facts came through about Socrates, the bell rang and class was over. Mr Shick then said, “Have a nice weekend everyone.”

Todays class/ Garcia

In today’s class in Human Geo, Mr. Schick first took attendance, and then we went over who sent him, or who did their blogs on time. Then he told me that we went over in class friday since I wasn’t there friday. He then went on his blog about a message from Garcia. Elbert Hubbard wrote a message to Garcia. He ranted many people who worked hard, and who didn’t. In March 1899 issue of “The Philistine”, Elbert Hubbard dashed off an untitled essay to fill space. The message got very viral without having electronics. Many people wanted copies and he gave 40 million copies of the pamphlets.  It also got spread by american businesses bought pamphlets for their employees. In 1914, it almost was in book form. Rowan was sent  to deliver a message to Garcia. The message was strapped to his heart in an oilskin pouch. All these facts are very important to know. Like Mr. Schick said, “These facts are important to have on a blog because you guys might be able to use a blog during a test”

5 things i hope to have success in as a Freshman

1. To stay in all my honor classes throughout freshman year would be very successful, and if I get more honors classes, I would like to stay in them also.
2. I would like to play at least one sport or attend a club or group, or have many friends and that would make a great Freshman year.
3. Also, I am excited  to have new teachers in the second semester, and new people and classes would help me.
4. I hope my computer doesn’t break somehow, or I don’t break it at John Carroll my freshman year. I also hope I can learn my classes to a science, or know how much to study, and how to for any quiz or test. If all these go as planned, I might have a easier Freshman year
5. If  could go all year without getting below a 50 average on any assignment would help my Freshman year. All these things are possible, but could be very difficult to concur.

Day 3

I walked into class about 3 minutes early because I had just had an off mod. I sat down in the back of the room where all the boys sit. And I waited until the bell rang. Everyone started coming in for day 3 of Human Geography. Mr. Schick told the class that we are way ahead of the other classes, so today we aren’t really gonna do anything. He then took attendance of who was there, and then he said my name, and mentioned about me not going to be in school tomorrow due to a go-kart race in Pittsburgh, PA. No one knows what it actually is. Everyone thinks go-karting is like at an amusement park, or a yard kart. These are national races, and can go up to 100 mph. Anyways, the class we had today was very fun because we did nothing. After many classes in a row, doing nothing in a class is great. We had to show Mr. Schick all of our blogs about last nights homework throughout the class. That was my favorite class of the day.

This weekend

In kart racing, know one knows what we actually do. Most people think that it so easy, or it’s a yard kart running around, or going to an amusement park to drive something. It’s another world compared to that. You have to change everything in the kart for max speed, and it could be .2 seconds from 1st to 10th. The Baltimore Grand Prix is basically a bigger version of what we do. All those drivers started in karting. Well, it’s so much more than that, but can’t explain all of it. This weekend was a crappy weekend, but that’s just racing. I blew up 2 engines, and got in one crash. I was fast all weekend until my engine blew up. It was a fun weekend with lots of friends I knew. Exhausting would be a word that describes it, but as long as I had fun. Having fun is probably the best part about everything you do. As we packed everything up, I said, “as long as I’m having fun”.

Wednesday's class blog

In today’s class in Human Geography was a fun. Mr. Schick first took attendance and asked people what names they’d want to be called. Mr. Schick then went to the blogs we had to do last night about our first day here at John Carroll.  He had a list of all the students that sent him the blog correctly. I didn’t send it correctly for some reason. We spent a couple of minutes getting to send the blog to him, if we got it wrong. A kid named Adam, got up in class because he had a volleyball game, and paused the class for a short moment. After Adam left, we went over the syllabus and what to do and what not to do. We went over his guidlines, his classwork, his homework, his tests and quizzes, and his projects. He got to the end of the syllabus, and the bell rang.
