Today in Human Geography was quite interesting. We talked about the leaders that have been in power. The leaders that have been in power are Kim II-sung, Kim Jong-un, and Kim Jong- il. Kim II-sung ruled from 1948-1994. He also died in 1994. He was considered a Great Leader, Eternal Leader, Supreme Leader, Eternal President of the Republic to the North Koreans. He was viewed as a God by his people, establishment of “cult of personality”, the people are required to show extreme devotion to him. During early part of his rule, the state destroyed over 2000 Buddhist temples and Christian churches. After he died, his son Kim Jong- il took power. He ruled from 1994- 2011. He also died in 2011. There are many crazy mythical facts we went over that the North Koreans think about Kim Jong- il. One of the craziest ones is that the people thought he could control the weather based on his mood. After he died, his son Kim Jong-un took power. Many people around the world thought this guy was going to change North Korea because of many reasons that the other leaders did not do. After many people thought he was going to change, he threatened the U.S by saying he was going to send a nuclear bomb to Washington D.C and Los Angeles. There are many other things why he’s not a good leader, and I would never want to live in North Korea.
